Latigo Canyon to Puerco Canyon

Water:
None
Restrooms:
None
Distance:
9.5 miles

This run begins at the trailhead off Latigo Canyon Road.  As you are struggling uphill, keep in mind that it is a net downhill.  After the parking lot at Corral Canyon we continue to Mesa Peak , then instead of going left down to Tapia, we stay to the right on Mesa Peak Motorway in a breathtaking downhill finish almost to the beach--This is the payoff for all that effort.  The run ends 1/4 mile from PCH at the gate on Puerco Canyon Road, where most of our cars are parked.

This is a very pretty point to point run, featuring a variety of footing and vegetation. The run starts at the Calabasas Cold Creek Trail on Mulholland and leads us up onto the "Secret Trail" working our way to Calabasas Peak and onto the Backbone trail that gets us to the corner of Malibu Canyon Rd with Piuma Rd. This is our meeting point from where we carpool to the start point in as few cars as possible. Please DO NOT drive directly to the start on Mulholland.

This is run #16 in "50 Trail Runs in Southern California".

Malibu Creek State Park: Paramount Ranch via Malibu Lake

Water:
5.7mi
Distance:
10mi
Course Number:
14 sim

This extremely scenic run starts at the corner of Mulholland and Las Virgenes. The run has no big hills and passes Century Reservoir, ascends Lookout trail, and after passing, in reverence,  the former Reagan Ranch arrives at Paramount Ranch. We then circle Malibou Lake and the site at which MASH was filmed.  We again proceed on the fire road past Century Reservoir to our starting point.

Tapia Park/Bulldog Road/Corral Backbone Loop

Water:
Mile 2
Restrooms:
Mile 2
Distance:
14 miles
Course Number:
Similar to #13

This run starts and finishes near Tapia Park, parking at the intersection of Piuma with Las Virgenes rd (or Malibu Canyon rd.)

This loop is one of the longer runs AND one of the hardest. We start going through Tapia Park onto the Tapia Spur trail, then making our way into Malibu Creek State Park and past the site at which the TV series Mash was filmed. The run then goes up the infamous Bulldog rd -a very scenic trail that climbs forever- and returns to the start with panoramic views of the valleys and surrounding mountains.
