31st Annual Turkey Trot Fun Run--Nov. 22nd, 2012

The TRC 31st Annual Turkey Trot is fast approaching, so mail your registration by November 19th.  The event will meet Thanksgiving Day at 6:30 AM and we will start running at 7:00 AM. After some post-run refreshments, your day will still have your appetite to be back in plenty of time to enjoy Thanksgiving Day.

Our event is not to be confused with the Topanga Turkey Trot which will occur the same day. Our course will be marked with orange flour arrows.  This is a “no fee” event established for ourselves and for the benefit of the trail running community.  See the attached flyer and has the details.

If any club members are available to volunteer to help during the event, please contact Ernie.  No matter what you volunteer for, you'll still be able to run!

Lasse Viren 20k Trail Run at Sycamore Canyon

On October 30th is the 34th Annual Lasse Viren 20K  promoted by Josh Spiker.  After the trail race, Aloha Steakhouse will cater its great food after the run.  In the past, Lasse Viren, Frank Shorter and Grete Waitz have run this course, but they won't be here this year--so maybe you can win this year.  Here is all the info:

Yosemite --If a picture shows 1,000, then a video shows 1,000,000

On our TRC trip to Yosemite on Sept.23-25 was a beautiful run from Tenaya Lake to Clouds Rest and down to the Valley.  Our production videos by member James captured our apical reach to Clouds Rest, and his condense  of our trip.  Here is the Clouds Rest climb:

The Rich History is in Mt. Lowe

Hi guys,

All members are welcome October 9th to enjoy a jaunt in the nearby San Gabriel Mts. (about a 45-minute drive from Santa Monica).  Meet at 7 AM at the Trail Head at the end of Lake Avenue in Altadena--We are not starting from the high school on Temescal Canyon Road.
There is no poison oak on this course, and none of those annoying rolling hills.  The out course is up, and the return is down--so at any time you know whether you are going toward your car, or away from it.  There is no water on the course.  This course will be marked with flour arrows.  If you have any questions, let me know echalekson@gmail.com
The San Gabriels are very beautiful and you can still see remnants of its glorious past.

The TRC in theTransRockies--August 21-26

Several of our TRC members commenced the TransRockies 2011 Race on August 21 for 120 miles for a beautiful but difficult experience.  TransRockies Run course runs from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek, through the heart of the White River and San Isabel National Forests. The course includes a mix of singletrack and forest road with nearly 25,000 feet of elevation gain, reaching altitudes of over 12,500 ft.  Members of TRC coupled in 2-man teams.  Ann and Art as a team and Emmy with a teammate and Lori with a teammate.

It won't be long and we will hear the stories and experiences of these rugged individuals.  I am so proud for them all and Congratulations!!!

The Passing of James

McCaughley, 43, a pilot from Santa Paula, was killed along with a friend on Sunday in an airplane crash.

James McCaughley, 43, a pilot from Santa Paula took off for a long journey last Sunday.

Dear Trail Runners,

JAMES RAN WITH US “THE TRAIL RUNNERS CLUB” FOR A FEW YEARS, A FEW YEARS AGO.  HE WAS A STRONG RUNNER, KNOWLEDGEABLE MOTOR CYCLE RIDER, AN EXCELLENT AIRPLANE PILOT AND HE RACED AUTOS AS WELL.  EVERYONE LIKED HIM AND RECOGNIZED HIM DOING A “WHEELIE” ON HIS MOTORCYCLE COMING DOWN MULHOLLAND WHEN WE WERE HAVING POST RUN REFRESHMENTS.  HE DID “FLY-OVER’S” WHEN  WE WERE RUNNING IN THE HILLS AND FLEW LOW AT TIMES SO WE COULD RECOGNIZE HIM FROM HIS BRIGHT BLUE EYES AND A BIG SMILE (WITH SHORTER HAIR THAN THE PHOTO).

Lori's Corner

Here's me and my partner being interviewed by EverymanTri in Boulder.  Don't make fun of me I'm fully aware of what a dork I am.

This is our 2011 TransRockies Blog! Check it out---- Thanks, Lori

The New Running Schedule is Woo Woo!

I am pretty excited about the schedule for the rest of this year.  In addition to our old favorite runs, the Bienveneda/Upper Rustic Canyon will be a treat in July 17th.  Then Yosemite to Clouds Rest in September will also be heaven.  Then we will go to Pasadena to run up Echo Mt. and Lowe Mt. in October 9th--driving time is less than 45 minutes to the trail head.  Then you will have the run from our Chantry Flats to Mt. Zion (10 miles) OR Chantry Flats to Mt Wilson (15 miles) on Nov.13.   The club loved this identical trip earlier this year.  Finally, on December 4th, we will discover the Boney Mountains from the Mt. Sierra Vista with spectacular vistas.  It will be great.

Mark your calendars,

Ernie
