Ojai: Nordhoff peak loop

Ojai: Nordhoff peak loop

This 15 mile loop starts at the bottom of the Gridley Trail, located at the dead end of Gridley Road off the 150 in Ojai. It’s all single track trail, challenging climbs but once on top of Nordhoff Peak there are amazing views of the Los Padres Wilderness, the Ojai Valley and with clear skies the Channel Islands.

It starts with a short steep rocky section but after about a half mile we turn left on the “Cozy Ojai trail”, rolling through beautiful green meadows. After about two miles we turn right and will go UP and UP and UP on the “Pratt trail” until we reach the Nordhoff Ridge where we turn right. After one mile you’ll see the Nordhoff lookout tower, take your time and climb it! Then we continue on the ridge for another mile until we reach the turnoff for the very enjoyable Gridley single track trail, all great downhill from here! Right before we reach the cars you’ll run past avocado orchards!

There is NO water anywhere on the course and it can get hot, so come with lots of water to cover a hard 15 miles and a snack to consume on the peak while enjoying the views so you have tons new energy to conquer the long but fun downhill.

Park along the street at the dead end of Gridley Road.

After the run we will go for lunch together at Boccali’s in Ojai. The pizza/pasta restaurant has their own farm and vineyard and lots of picnic tables outside, perfect for post-run lunch with a group. http://boccalis.com/index.html
