Bulldog loop from Grasslands trail

Bulldog loop from Grasslands trail

Tim & Chris on the Backbone trail during the Bulldog loop, post Woolsey fire.

Starting at the Grasslands trail, running the Bulldog loop counter clockwise, passing through the M.A.S.H. tv series film side. From there we turn onto the infamous Bulldog rd, a scenic trail that climbs forever, while rewarding us with panoramic views of the valleys and surrounding mountains. Finishing through Tapia Park onto the angry Chihuahua climb back to Grasslands.

Currently the big concrete bridge has been washed out by the winter storms. There is a little detour that runners/hikers use to cross the water until future repair, it’ll be a little adventure how to cross Malibu Creek.

Is it okay for a non member to join the run next weekend? I am in LA for work and staying the weekend.

    • Ann Ongena says:

Hi Neil, of course you can join for the run when you are visiting LA. Make sure you bring a hydration pack with a minimum of 2 liters of water and some nutrition to pull you through the run. It can get really hot on those trails and people that are new to the area sometimes get taken by surprise. Looking forward to see you. -Ann

Hi Ann. Unfortunately i arrived a bit later so missed the club. I did however follow the same route and had a really good time. It is quite a climb up the Bulldog trail. I did however pass a mountainbiker which made my day 🙂 I have to admit walking some of the downhills as i did noþ have the right shoes fir the terrain. Also at 50 i am not as young as i once was
The arrow markers were a godsend as i think i would have missed a couple of turns
Taking plenty of water was a good call. Drank all of my 1.5 liters with 3Kms to go. It was 94 degrees when i got back to the car!
Thanks to your club. I look forward to coming again.
If anyone is heading to Belgium then let me know.

Hi Neil, sorry we missed you. But thank goodness for arrows huh! I’m glad you still got out and had a great run in.
Of course you can join anytime when you’re in the hood.
Thank you for the invite. In fact I’ll be in Belgium a short couple days in September visiting my family. Yes, I’m Belgian myself. I’ll be in Sint-Niklaas/Lokeren/Gent area. Only very short and I won’t be running as I’ll be coming from a big mountain race in the Alps the weekend before, rest time is a good time to visit family 🙂 HOpe to meet sometime in the future!
