O’Melveny is in Santa Susanna Mtns, so not near Wilson. This route is out and back. Max 14 miles. It’s San Fernando Valley, so it could be hot in summer.

At the start is a parking lot and bathrooms. Hopefully, the parking gate is open at 7am.

The parking lot is on Sesnon, between Orozco and Meadowlark.

At mile 3 is Mission Point. 2nd highest in Santa Susanna (#3 is Rocky Peak). It’s flattish until mile 4.5. So, if it’s too hot, people can do 6-9 miles. If you go past mile 4.5, you’re on the Santa Clarita side of the mountain (5 Fwy side).

At the turn around point and before heading back you can refill your water at the Church. The church with the water fountain just past the end of the East Canyon Trailhead is: “Church Of The Nazarene” at 23857 The Old Rd, Newhall, CA 91321
Once you arrive at the East Canyon trailhead take a left to head north for 1000 feet through the parking lot and along the The Old Road to the church where you will see the drinking fountain outside on the front of the church. A church employee told Scott they installed the drinking fountain there for trail users. How awesome is that!!!
