Sycamore Canyon to Chamberlain Rock

Sycamore Canyon to Chamberlain Rock

This 14 mile out & back run starts and ends on Sycamore Canyon Fire road at the end of the camp ground (yellow gate).

We are meeting at the first bathrooms (sharp left at the ranger cabin at the entrance) by 7 am.

We start running through the campground ( shhhhh …. keep voices down) and up the fire road until we reach the turnoff for the Serrano Canyon Trail at 1 mile from the gate where we started, making our way to Serrano Valley at an elevation of 1303 ft. with it’s majestic views of beautiful rolling grassland meadows that are a lush green and full of wildflowers in winter and a golden brown in summer and fall. From Serrano Valley we will keep climbing onto Old Boney Trail and then climb up onto the Chamberlain Trail via the switchbacks up to Chamberlain Rock, aka Butt-Rock. Here you scramble through the rock which locals believe will shed all your sins. Then you turn around and head back for seven miles of downhill glory while enjoying the panoramic views and all the endorphins flowing through your body.

At the turn of the Serrano Valley Trail is a water faucet on the fire road , just look very closely in the brush on your right when coming back out of it onto the fire road.

We are parking along the PCH where the Sand Dune is, west of the park entrance. Come a little earlier so there is some extra time to find each other as it’s a bit of a walk to get to the start. (The pay parking lot is closed until 8am)
